Seabrook

Seabrook

A couple of weekends ago my mommy and I stayed at a new community on the Washington Coast called Seabrook. It's about 40 minutes north of the Ocean Shores turn off on Hwy 109. The whole idea of what they want to create is fascinating: it's a combination of privately owned and company owned homes that can be rented out. So you purchase a second home there and, if you want, the management company rents out the house when you're not there or you can live there year round or only during the summer time. Your choice.

The houses are really close together but carefully planned so that you don't feel like you're living on top of one another. The size difference in houses helps a lot. They range from a small, 2 person artists studio to a huge, will sleep 14 landmark. Interspersed throughout the development are community areas. Things like a huge field with benches along one side so you can watch the impromptu football game. There are two or three playgrounds along with horseshoe pits and specially groomed areas for lawn bowling. Sidewalks and common paths meander through the houses and each front porch is right up against a sidewalk encouraging people to chat as they pass by.

Mom and I were quite enamoured of this house. It was designed so that you had a wood fireplace in the living room AND on the front porch! They were back to back and therefore shared a chimney which seemed such a wonderful idea. We saw the family sitting out there every chance they could get and even though it was chilly they appeared quite toasty. Unfortunately, this particular house isn't available for rent.

Oh, and did I mention that it was RIGHT on the water. Well, okay right across the street from the water. They are currently working on the next stage of building which puts about 6 houses right on the bluff above the water. Beautiful location.

Would I recommend a stay here. Definitely! It's cheaper than a hotel in Ocean shores and while you don't have shops to walk through or a place to buy ice cream cones and salt water taffy. It does have a small cafe and they are currently working on a grocery/convenience store. Besides, you get to stay in a HOUSE rather than a hotel room. There is A LOT more in the works for this little up and coming community. I would recommend staying here to anyone who wants a quiet, low key stay at the beach. http://www.seabrookwa.com/. Thank you for the great weekend Mommy!
